MOCKING THE TRUTH | 2 PETER 3 : 3-7

I hear this statement over and over again, even among educated people: “It doesn’t really matter because it’s all going to burn anyway.” Most Christians have heard that at some point, people saying: “Why should we care, it’s all going to burn anyway, we’re all going to get raptured and go to Heaven, and so we’ll just leave this mess behind.” And, I don’t really think the Bible says that.

God’s bringing fire. He brought water the first time, he’s bringing fire the second time, for the same purpose, and that is to cleanse the earth. It’s ungodly man that will perish, not the earth. This is the only earth we’re ever going to get, and we’re called to be good stewards of it.

THOUGHT PROVOKING

The spine of the film consists of seven Bible studies given by Tri. Here are thought-provoking three-word quotes from each of them. Click on them to read the whole passage.

Genesis 9 : 8-17 | All living creatures
8 Then God told Noah and his sons,

9 “I hereby confirm my covenant with you and your descendants,

10 and with all the animals that were on the boat with you—the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals—every living creature on earth.

11 Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth.”

12 Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come.

13 I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth.

14 When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds,

15 and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life.

16 When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.”

17 Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.”

2 Kings 20 : 16-19 | During my lifetime
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Listen to this message from the LORD :

17 The time is coming when everything in your palace—all the treasures stored up by your ancestors until now—will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.

18 Some of your very own sons will be taken away into exile. They will become eunuchs who will serve in the palace of Babylon’s king.”

19 Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “This message you have given me from the LORD is good.” For the king was thinking, “At least there will be peace and security during my lifetime.”

2 Chronicles 36 : 20-21 | Its Sabbath rest
20 The few who survived were taken as exiles to Babylon, and they became servants to the king and his sons until the kingdom of Persia came to power.

21 So the message of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah was fulfilled. The land finally enjoyed its Sabbath rest, lying desolate until the seventy years were fulfilled, just as the prophet had said.

Matthew 24 : 3 - 25 : 45 | FIVE WERE WISE
3 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world? ”

6 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately.

7 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world.

8 But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.

12 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold.

45 A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them.

Romans 1 : 18-20 | Everything God made
18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.

19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them.

20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Romans 8 : 18-22 | Creation is waiting
18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.

19 For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.

20 Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope,

21 the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay.

22 For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.

2 Peter 3 : 3-7 | MOCKING THE TRUTH
3 Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.

4 They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.”

5 They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water.

6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood.

7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.
